Valdosta State got on the board first as it plated a run in the top of the first inning. Ryan Noelte doubled to left to open the frame and moved to third on a wild pitch before scoring when Cameron Graves hit a two-out single to right to give VSU a 1-0 lead.

After Albany State got the run back in the bottom of the frame, two hits and a wild pitch gave VSU the lead back in the top of the second only to have the Golden Rams take advantage of a pair of Blazer errors in the bottom of the inning to once again even the score.

Christian Glisson and Bryant Hayman put the Blazers in front as each hit a two-run home run in the third. Marc Overstreet drew a walk to open the frame and scored as Glisson hit his second round-tripper of the season, a shot over the wall in right. After a fly out by Graves, Chad Grant was hit by a pitch and scored when Hayman hit the ball over the wall in left-center to post Valdosta State to a 6-2 lead.

The third Valdosta State error of the game led to Albany State’s third run of the game in the fourth as Eddie Mathis hit a one-out triple and scored when Zachary Rios’ throw to first on a Tevin Collins ground ball pulled Grant off the bag before ASU added a fourth run in the fifth.

VSU closed out the scoring in the top of the eighth inning as the first nine batters of the inning reached base. Buster Jackson opened the inning with a single up the middle and Chaz Bagwell drew a walk before Brent Nelson beat out a bunt to load the bases. Noelte drove in Jackson and Bagwell with a double to left and Overstreet walked to once again load the bases before Glisson hit a single to right to score Nelson and Noelte. Both Overstreet and Glisson also scored on the play as Golden Rams right fielder Ryan Latner mis-played the ball and shortstop William Smalls threw the relay throw away. After Graves reached via a walk, Grant singled to right and Latner again committed an error to allow Graves to come home for a 13-4 VSU lead.
