Blazer softball blasts Miles in doubleheader

Valdosta State’s softball team routed the Miles Golden Bears Tuesday afternoon, 9-0 and 20-4, in a doubleheader. The first game only lasted six innings, while the second was a mere five.
Alanna Hadley pitched a one-hit shutout in the first game, and struck out seven. She received ample offensive support. Courtney Albritton went 3 for 4, while Morgan Johnson, Samantha Posey, Marti Littlefield and Natalia Morozova all went 2 for 4.
Albritton, Johnson, Posey and Littlefield scored two runs each.
Brianna Hancock earned the victory for VSU in game 2, striking out six batters and allowing three unearned runs in the first three innings of the game. Courtney Gunby finished the game with an unearned run in the final two innings.
Valdosta State’s hitters pounded the ball in the second game. Albritton went 4 for 5. Johnson, Ashley Steinhilber, Angela O’Connor and Fran Johnson all blasted home runs.
Posey had a perfect 4 for 4 outing in the second game. Morgan Johnson was 3 of 4, and both Littlefield and Steinhilber were 3 of 5.
Valdosta State returns home this weekend to host West Alabama at 2 p.m. Saturday and West Florida at 1 p.m. Sunday in Gulf South Conference matchups.
