SPIRIT OF THE SUWANNEE MUSIC PARK, LIVE OAK, FLA – Suwannee Springfest will mark its 16th anniversary in 2012 at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park (SOSMP) in Live Oak, Fla. Well-known and highly-regarded among discerning fans and media, the event consistently features some of the world’s finest performers in new and traditional Folk, Roots Rock, Bluegrass and Newgrass, singer/songwriter, acoustic Blues, Cajun/Zydeco and other forms of American Roots music. Those musical sub-genres are now collectively referred to as Americana music, a style growing rapidly in acceptance and popularity which incorporates respect for and recognition of traditional music forms presented through a completely contemporary framework and approach.
Among the artists expected this year are Yonder Mountain String Band, Donna The Buffalo, Justin Townes Earl, Emmitt-Nershi Band, Guy Clark, Verlon Thompson, Darol Anger & The Republic of Strings, Tea Leaf Green, Hot Buttered Rum, Tony Rice, The Mosier Brothers, Tornado Rider, Greensky Bluegrass, The Infamous Stringdusters, Great American Taxi, Ryan Montbleau, Roy Book Binder, Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit, Jim Lauderdale, Joe Craven, Larry Keel & Natural Bridge, Dread Clampitt, Grant Peeples, Randall Bramblett with Geoff Achison, Split Lip Rayfield, Ralph Roddenberry Band, Elephant Revival, Two Man Gentlemen Band, The Pinkham Family, Saltwater Grass, Jubal’s Kin, Larking Poe, Big Cosmo, Habanero Honeys, Packway Handle Band, Bobby Miller & The Virginia Dare Devils, Whetherman, Sloppy Joe, Quartermoon, 2-Foot Level, Grandpa’s Cough Medicine, Mickey Abraham’s Traveling Acoustic Ensemble, Uproot Hootenanny, Short Straw Pickers, Bibb City Ramblers, Lefty Williams Band, Donna Hopkins Band, Sanctum Sully, Red June, Taylor Martins Engine, Lizzy Ross Band, Honey Blue, Emily Morris and many more. Full details are listed on the website at suwanneespringfest.com. Suwannee Springfest has always helped to develop and promote Americana music. A 2007 documentary film about the festival and its unique sphere of influence called “Music Farmers: Sowing the Seeds of Americana” aired on more than 175 PBS network outlets worldwide and was also shown at the Jacksonville Film Festival that same year. Suwannee Springfest has grown from an initial attendance of about 1,000 to more than 7,000 loyal attendees from across the nation. These loyal, colorful followers come early and stay late for the event, helping to create a true sense and spirit of community throughout the festival grounds. Besides the stellar music on the stages, the sounds of singing and playing ring joyfully through the trees round the clock at this friendly, family-based gathering.
