Sidney Johnson

A Live Oak man has been arrested after he trailed behind his victim and snatched her purse from the backpack she wore, police say.

According to reports from the Live Oak Police Department, Sidney Leroy Johnson, 25, 202 Georgia Ave., Live Oak, followed his victim in the area of John Hale Park on March 15 and continued closing in, until he was right behind her. At that time, Johnson reached into the backpack she wore and removed her purse. Police say that when the victim realized Johnson had taken her purse, she turned around and confronted him. The victim forcibly took her purse back and ran away from Johnson.

Reports show that the victim gave a description of Johnson and officers were able to determine his possible identity. When authorities compiled photos of Johnson and showed them to the victim, she was able to positively identify him.

Johnson was arrested on March 15 and charged with robbery-sudden snatching and battery.
