After a tough Friday, the Valdosta State tennis teams rebounded with wins on Saturday and Sunday.
On Sunday, both the Blazers and Lady Blazers defeated ranked victories. The VSU men beat seventh-ranked Concordia 5-4, while the women took down No. 21 UC-San Diego 5-0.
The Blazers were up 4-0 on Concordia before their opponent fought back and won four straight matches. But senior Christian Hansen, VSU’s No. 1 player, won a tiebreak in the third set, 10-8, and that win clinched the match for Valdosta State.
On Saturday, both teams beat Delta State by matching 5-0 scores. The No. 1 Blazers were able to pick up a conference victory over 38th-ranked Delta State.
The defending Division II champion men’s tennis team ends the weekend at 7-4 overall and 4-1 in conference play. The Lady Blazers move to 6-5 overall and 4-0 in the GSC.
Both tennis teams return home to host New Orleans at 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
