Blazer golf 13th at Buccaneer Invitational

Valdosta State followed a first round 297 with a second round 299 to stand 13th after the first day of play at the Buccaneer Invitational Presented by Carrabba’s held at the par-71, 6,805-yard Normandie Shores Golf Club Monday.

Valdosta State finished the first day of play 28-over-par with a two-round total of 596. Laval and host Barry claimed the opening day lead as each shot a six-under 562 while Cal State-Stanislaus and Nova Southeastern tied for third at even-par. Lynn was two strokes behind in fifth and Florida Tech fired a 574 to stand sixth while Saint Leo (576) and Western Washington (579) followed as Brevard Community College and Eckerd tied for ninth at 582.

Central Missouri opened the second 10 at 583 while Wilmington was three strokes behind Tampa followed VSU at 596.

Michael Rafalowicz paced the Blazers as he shot an even-par 142 to tie for 13th on the day. John Fordham and Nate Anderson tied for 63rd at 152 while Clarke Hendrick was two strokes behind and tied for 70th. Austin Graham closed out the Blazer squad with a 156 to tie for 75th.

The tournament concludes with a single round of play Tuesday morning.
