The Suwannee River Water Management District Executive Director Selection Committee conducted interviews today with four candidates for the position of executive director. Following interviews and discussion of the committee, the committee selected Ann Shortelle as their top candidate. The candidate is scheduled to go before the full governing board for final approval on June 12.
The candidates that were interviewed are as follows: Shortelle, director of the Office of Water Policy for Florida Department of Environmental Protection; Steve Minnis, director of Governmental Affairs for the District; Chuck Walter, director of Science and Information for Applied Sciences Consulting Inc.; and Cliff Lewis, assistant branch chief of the Water Protection Branch for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources: Environmental Protection Division.
The selection committee is made up of five District Governing Board members – Don Quincey Jr., Heath Davis, George Cole, Donald “Ray” Curtis III, and Carl Meece. Earlier this month, the committee had narrowed the list of 17 candidates applying for the job down to four.
The candidate would start the job soon after contract negotiations with the governing board are finalized. The candidate is subject to confirmation by the Governor and Senate.
