Suwannee County Sheriff Tony Cameron said it appears that Jane Doe had been on the road at some point due to blood found on the roadway, near where her body was found.

Suwannee County Sheriff Tony Cameron knows the identity of a woman discovered unconscious on the side of a Suwannee County roadway, but he is withholding her name, saying its release could hurt an investigation into how she wound up there.

A passerby discovered the 34-year-old woman near an intersection on U.S. Highway 90 on July 16. She was bruised about her head and upper body. She was taken to a hospital, where she emerged from a medically induced coma Tuesday.

Suwannee County Sheriff Tony Cameron said the woman was identified through a fingerprint analysis, after an initial fingerprint search turned up nothing. He said the woman is not from the area.

Her condition is quickly improving, he added. “She will make a much more rapid recovery than I had originally thought,” he said.

Sheriff’s deputies found tire marks near the woman’s body, but Cameron said he did not yet know if she had been hit by a car, dumped along the highway or crawled there.
