Adam Froman has been named the new quarterbacks coach at Valdosta State, per a university announcement Tuesday afternoon.

Froman officially began at VSU last Wednesday, after human resources approved his hire earlier last week.

 “We are excited to add Adam to our staff,” Valdosta State head coach David Dean said, in the university announcement.

“He brings a lot of knowledge and will be a great addition to our football program.”

Froman spent the past two seasons as an offensive assistant at SEC power Louisiana State (LSU).

Prior to entering the coaching field, Froman was an established college quarterback at Louisville, which eventually earned him a free agent contract with the Atlanta Falcons.

He later played with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League and the Spokane Shock of the Arena Football League.

Froman, who spent the first two seasons of his college career at Santa Rose (Calif.) Junior College, completed 243-of-403 passes for 2,987 yards with 17 touchdowns in two seasons with the Cardinals of Louisville.

At Santa Rosa, Froman was named a Junior College All-American and the conference player of the year in 2008, after he threw for 3,876 yards and 40 touchdowns that season.

“Adam brings a lot of experience and different idea from all of the places he has been,” Dean said.

“He is a good technician when it comes to teaching the game and will provide us with new ideas as we move forward with our quarterbacks in particular and offense in general.”

At Valdosta State, Froman inherits a quarterbacks corps that features two-year starter Cayden Cochran and redshirt freshman Kaleb Nobles, the believed-to-be quarterback of the future.

In 2012, Cochran led the Blazers to the Division II national championship, completing 218-of-338 passes for 2,710 yards with 26 touchdowns and just eight interceptions.

Heading into the 2013 season, Cochran will likely garner preseason All-America honors, to go along with a talented and experienced group of wide receivers.

While Nobles is just a redshirt freshman in 2013, he has been on campus since the spring of 2012 and has already gone through two spring practices and a full season with the Blazers.

Despite being a redshirt in 2012, Nobles traveled with the Blazers and was used to signal offensive plays into Cochran.

Nobles will be the likely be the second-string quarterback this season for the Blazers, and is the front-runner to be the starter in 2014.

Former Valdosta State quarterback coach Robby Brown, who was hired in 2009, stepped down from the quarterback position following the Blazers’ 35-7 win in the Division II national championship game in December. He was hired as the offensive coordinator at Division I-FCS Northwestern State (La.).
