Kelly wins Justice in Motion 5K

Ryan Kelly of Lake Park won the Justice in Motion 5K road race last Saturday morning.

Kelly crossed the finish line in 18:30, 36 seconds ahead of his nearest challenger.

Tim Komarek of Valdosta finished second, with a time of 19:06. Colin Prinsloo of Valdosta was third, crossing the finish line in 19:57. Rick Mazurkiewicz of Valdosta was fourth, finishing with a time of 20:25. Milo Mirate, also from Valdosta, was fifth (21:48).

Dereh Cummings of Valdosta was sixth, running the race in 21:56. Denecio Scott of Canton took seventh, with a time of 22:10. Gene Murphy of Valdosta was eighth, three seconds behind Scott. Kevin Langley of Adel was 10th (22:44).

Sarah Stover of Valdosta was the women’s winner, with a time of 22:43. She finished ninth overall.

Heather Addington of Valdosta was the second woman to finish, and was 11th overall, running the race in 23:20. Martha Mazurkiewicz of Valdosta was 12th overall, and third among the women, with a time of 23:25. Sarah Lashley of Barney (24:14) and Erica Strayhorn of Valdosta (24:27) were the fourth- and fifth-place women, finishing 18th and 19th overall.

Komarek, Rick Mazurkiewicz, Mirate, Cummings, Nathan Dummitt from Macon, Bob Moon of Valdosta, Bob Bowen of Nashville and Ronnie Metts from Hahira finished first in their age groups. Addington, Martha Mazurkiewicz, Lashley, Meredith Shaw of Valdosta, Ansley Harrison of Valdosta and Galen Mirate of Valdosta also took first in their age groups.

Proceeds from the road race went to The Haven Battered Women’s Shelter and its rape crisis center. The Justice in Motion 5K was the kickoff event for The Haven’s Sexual Assault Awareness Month 2013.  The next scheduled road race in Valdosta is the 2013 James Eunice Legacy 5K on April 13.
