Rose Lawson
Jan. 27, 1944
March 25, 2013

Rose Lawson, age 69, a resident of Live Oak, passed away suddenly on March 25, 2013.
A gentle woman and fiercely devoted mother, Rose leaves behind three children: two daughters, Lisa Ann Libowitz of Baltimore, MD, and Debbie Darlene Jackson of Pineville, KY; and a son, Kenneth Glenn Hooker of Live Oak, Fla. She cherished her four grandchildren: grandson Benjamin Joseph Pingleton, and granddaughters Hayley Caitlyn, Jessica Rose, and Olivia Beth Libowitz.
Rose was born Jan. 27, 1944, in Bell County, KY.  She was the daughter of Bertha and Henry North, and one of 13 children. She is survived by four siblings: two sisters, Ann Beebe of Fayetteville, GA, and Henrietta Johnson of Harrogate, TN; and two brothers, Albert North of Fort Wayne, IN, and Howard North of Totz, KY.
She also is survived by her sons-in-law: Steve Libowitz and Darrell Jackson.
Rose found her joy and comfort in nature, particularly her garden. Like her mother before her, she could make anything grow. She spent many years of her life as a stay-at-home mother, and more than 25 years as a custodian in a school district in Indianapolis, but her passion was gardening.
She also cared deeply about helping others who were less fortunate than her.  Everywhere she lived–and for years here in Live Oak–she prepared and delivered meals to her neighbors when they were ill or facing a Thanksgiving or Christmas alone.
Rose was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Alva Clayton Hooker. In addition to her immediate family, she will be missed by many nieces and nephews. She loved her step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well.
Memorial services will be held at a later date in Baltimore, MD, and Pineville, KY.
Harris Funeral Home and Cremations, Inc. of Live Oak is in charge of all arrangements.
