Suspicious barn fire accumulates $30k in damages

A hay barn that allegedly caught fire by suspicious activity resulted in nearly $30,000 in damages, according to Suwannee County Fire/Rescue.

No injuries were reported.

According to a SCFR report, On Saturday, April 6, SCFR was dispatched to a structure fire on 185th Street. The fire alarm paged out at 5:50 p.m. Upon arrival, crews found a hay barn, belonging to Starling Hay Farm, on fire which had 100 bales of hay underneath the barn with equipment parked under a lean-to attached to the barn.

Firefighters worked to get the fire under control. Equipment on site was used to push the burning hay out of the barn to save the structure. Damage to the structure was contained to one section of the building.

An investigation of the cause and origin of the fire revealed it was suspicious in nature.

SCFR has joined forces with the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office, State Fire Marshals Office and the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Agency to continue the investigation.
