This county needs more women in higher positions of government. There are educated, intelligent, hardworking and compassionate women in this county and we need them in politics. Why DON’T we have more women involved? And I’m not talking about the school board. We need forward thinkers. “The world will be saved by the Western woman.” (The Dalai Lama)

I am not sure what it takes to get a road paved in Suwannee County but I sure wish someone would take a look at Hogan Road and 104th Terrace. Both roads are terrible and will do damage to your vehicle. There are lots of homes and churches in that area. Suwannee County, do something about these roads please!

We need to better mark the sharp curve on 147th Rd in Hidden Oaks. I’m tired of my tax dollars being wrapped around Oak trees.

Adam Prins is a man of principle who is trying to affect positive growth in our very needy community. Hold your head high Councilman Prins. The voters are with YOU!

Why can’t a complete copy of the school board agendas, including personnel changes, be published in the Suwannee Democrat? Is there some reason the public can not be privy to this information prior to the meetings? If people knew what was being discussed prior to the meetings, I believe attendance would increase. This is one way to increase parent involvement. School board agendas are usually too lengthy too print in its entirety in the print edition. The PDF agendas can be found by visiting the school board’s website, at www.suwannee.schooldesk.net. – Editor

In order to increase parent involvement, it would be helpful for a calendar of events for all the schools to be included in the Suwannee Democrat. Now, is the best time to do this with May and June coming shortly. A list of all end-of-year events to include dates, times, and locations.

Field Trips Within the School District –
1. How are they decided?
2. Who pays for them?
3. When are they?
4. Where are they?
5. Could a list of these be compiled and published since all out of town field trips require board approval?
WE PARENTS WOULD LIKE TO KNOW THESE THINGS ABOUT FIELD TRIPS. THANK YOU!

Why aren’t all the physical education teachers in the primary, elementary, and intermediate schools required to sponsor and coordinate the annual field days at the schools? Some organize them and others do not which leaves it up to the classroom teachers to do so. It would seem these teachers in PE would want to showcase the skills they’ve taught all year and what better way to do this than an end of the year field day?

With respect to the hiring of a new county attorney. I challenge the citizens of this county and the media to delve deeper into the cost of our present attorney, Mr. Airth. The 18k a year and the hourly rate do not scratch the surface of what Mr. Airth has been paid out of the tax payers pockets. He has farmed out simple legal tasks to other firms and lawyers, costing we the taxpayers thousands if not hundreds of thousands. Mr. Fowler enjoy retirement and fade away into the past as quietly as you can and take your attorney with you. Change is good.

This is a rave about the Suwannee High School “Brain Bowl” winning another state championship! There needs to be a banner/or sign keeping track of all the years SHS has won this distinction. We need to be as proud of our scholars as we are our athletes! Way to go team and Mr. Pate!

Hats off to the Hats On days which Suwannee Elementary School is sponsoring to help with the “Relay for LIfe” event which is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society in an attempt to find a cure for cancer. Many of us remember the dime crusades for the March of Dimes back in our days in school. How is this any different? We are teaching students how to be mindful of others who are battling disease. Have fun and don’t forget to bring a dollar to wear you hat!

Teacher Appreciaton Week will be May 6 through May 10. This is the perfect time to show your appreciation of all the teachers you know who have made a difference in the lives of students. Send them a note, give them a small gift, call them by phone and say thank you, or some other token of appreciation would mean a lot to the teachers in your life.

A big rave goes out to the Friends of Heritage Parks and Gardens for all the hard work they have done getting the park ready for the public. If not for their vision Suwannee County would have lost a beautiful site.

Is there a new fad which involves driving without your lights on during dark hours. Many folks are doing that all of a sudden in Live Oak and Suwannee County. What is this all about?

The county roads out near Bass Road – 129th Road and SR 252 need the right of way mowed very badley. This is something which needs to be kept up with. Why not use some of the state prisoners from Suwannee Correctional Institute to help with this. Also, 104th Street needs trees which are blocking the road cut immediately. This is a danger to anyone who travels that road.

Why not tell the real reason the County Commission dose not want to meet on Tuesday mornings. Commissioner Bashaw is going to college to be a Nurse, Commissioner Gamble runs a business,I thought it paid 34,000 dollars a year to work for us. What happened to full time Commissioners?

We have got to clean house in the city and get those who have been on the public dole for so long out of office. It is time for a change.

How come people take dirt off the county road and use it for their private use.

May 6 – 10 will be Teacher Appreciation Week. I challenge the community to use your marquees to show teachers how much you support them. Let’s all rally and make our educators know how valuable they are to all of us! Remember to show your appreciation in a special way sometime between May 6-10!

Thank goodness lately the garbage dumpster site on SR 51 just outside the city limit has been doing a much better job. One attendant even goes in a little earlier so those of us who go to work at 8:00am can dump our garbage on our way to work. Thank you! Thank you!

Congratulations to Miss Emily Bass, SHS Drama Teacher, and several of her students for being selected to act in “Fiddler on the Roof” a community theater production in Lake City at Florida Gateway College this summer. They were invited to audition for this play. SUPPORT THE ARTS IN SUWANNEE COUNTY SCHOOLS!

Are the police ever going to be allowed to inforce the golf carts on city streets ordanances? People just laugh at them.
In Baker Subdivision, there are children as young as 5 driving golf carts on the street, by themselves or with another child in the cart. There are ATV’s going all around the neighborhood. They (police) need to make more ride throughs.

Why do we need a republican party when they now want to give the country to democrats by adding 11 million illegals through amnesty? Plus the illegals will also get free “Marcophones” paid for by us taxpayers. We need a new political party for and by real Americans!
