VSU softball camps announced for Summer
VALDOSTA — Registration is now available for the Valdosta State Blazer Softball Camp, which will be held for older kids (ages 13-18) June 10-12, and a separate camp for younger kids (ages 8-13) that will be held June 24-26. Register before May 31 to receive a $10 discount.
The camp features include: Quality instruction from Valdosta State 2012 National Champion head coach Thomas Macera, other members of the VSU coaching staff, and Valdosta State Softball Players; Campers will learn the timeless techniques of the modern day hitter, from the correct grip and set-up to the proper bat path and explosive lower half mechanics; and Campers will learn proper fundamentals for throwing and taking ground balls and fly balls as well as the proper pitching technique.
Registration is $120 per individual and $115 for siblings/teams. The price includes camp admission, a T-shirt, a V-State draw string bag, and a water bottle. A mid-morning snack will also be provided. The camps will run from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. each day. To register, visit www.vstateblazers.com or call the softball office at 333-7405.
VSU baseball camps set for June
VALDOSTA — The Valdosta State baseball team, which will compete in today’s Gulf South Conference tournament championship game, will host several summer camps this June. The Instructional Showcase, which is available for 2013 graduates, rising high school juniors and seniors and junior college sophomores, will be held Sunday, June 2 from Noon until 5 p.m. The showcase will include a pro-style workout, pitcher versus batter confrontation and a Valdosta State campus tour.
The Blazers will host Youth Camps this summer. The Five-Tool Camp will be held June 3-6 for ages 7-12. The camp focuses on the five tools of baseball: throwing, catching, base running, hitting for average and hitting for power. Water slides, lunch and T-shirts are included.
The Instructional Week will be held June 10-11 and 12-13 for ages 8-12. Pick and choose whichever two-day specialty camps best meet needs. The camp includes infield/outfield play, pitcher/catcher instruction, advanced hitting and the all new Sandlot Games.
