The Valdosta State softball team made the long journey to Salem, Va. Tuesday, leaving Valdosta at 10:30 a.m. with devoted fans cheering them out of the parking lot.
The Blazers drove to Jacksonville, Fla. before flying to Salem, the site of this year’s NCAA Division II National Championship Tournament.
The Blazers open the tournament Thursday at 2:30 p.m. against the Molloy College Lions.
VSU is looking to become the first team to repeat as national champion since California (Pa.) won back-to-back championships in 1997-98.
The tournament continues all weekend, with the championship game being played Monday at noon, airing live on NCAA.com.
