One dead in Quitman shooting

At 8:50 p.m. on Sunday night, Quitman Police Department responded to a 911 call at 802 Morris Avenue. The call reported that shots had been fired.

By the time that police officers arrived at the scene, two victims had been taken to the hospital in Quitman. According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations, Mickey Albritton, 29,  died due to apparent gun shot wounds. The second victim, whose name has not been released, was taken to a hospital out of the area.

Officials have not released the victim’s condition at this time.

Two arrests were made in relation to the shooting. According to GBI officials, Myron Mitchell, 22, and Javis Denson, 32, were detained for questioning at 11 p.m. Sunday night. Both men were later charged with murder and aggravated assault and are currently being held at the Brooks County Jail.

According to a release from GBI, Albritton’s body has been submitted for autopsy.
