Willard Junior Godwin
June 19, 1931 – Sept. 19, 2013
Willard Junior Godwin, age 82, Jasper, Fla. passed away Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013 at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, GA.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013 at First Baptist Church in Jasper, Fla. with Rev. Gerald Smith officiating. Mr. Clayton Jones gave the eulogy. Interment will followed in Evergreen Cemetery.
Willard was born June 19, 1931 in Quitman, GA. to the late Willie and Nora Wheeler Godwin. He moved to Hamilton County in the early 1950’s and went to work at Ford Motor Company. Later he owned and operated G & P Trucking and G & P Auto Parts. He was a former board member at Hamilton County Farm Bureau and served for 16 years on the Hamilton County School Board before retiring to full time farming, hunting and fishing. Willard was a faithful member at Bright Pond Baptist Church near Jasper. He was a friend to so many people over the years and will be remembered as a faithful and loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. In addition to his many accomplishments in life, Willard served his country honorably in the United States Army.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Faye Anne Jones Godwin; two sons, Greg Godwin and his wife Karen and Gary Godwin and his wife Ginny, all of Jasper, Fla.; one daughter, Sheila Gritz-Swift and her husband Ron of Leon County, Fla.; two brothers, Olin Godwin, Valdosta, GA. and Lester Godwin and his wife Jeanne of Atlanta, GA.; two sisters, Carolyn Bass and Norma Cook and her husband, Tom all of Jasper, Fla.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
