Lowndes County residents can meet with a representative from a company wanting to build a natural gas pipeline from Alabama to Florida. A pipeline that would cut through South Georgia.

Dec. 9 is the day that Sabal Trail Transmission Representative Brian Fahrenthold is scheduled to attend a Lowndes County Commission work session, said Lowndes County Commissioner Demarcus Marshall. The work session will begin 8:30 a.m., and will be held at the Lowndes County Judicial Complex, 394 N. Ashley St.

Sabal Trail Transmission is a joint venture of Spectra Energy Corp. and NextEra Energy Inc.

In July, Sabal Trail was awarded a 465-mile interstate pipeline project by Florida Power & Light Company to transport more than 1 billion cubic feet per day beginning in Tallapoosa County, Ala., extending through Georgia, and ending at FPL’s Central Florida Hub near Orlando.

The gas will be transported through a 36-inch pipeline. The pipeline will intersect the southwest portion of Lowndes County.

Lowndes County commissioners and Fahrenthold encourage residents to attend this event. Residents whose property will be affected by the pipeline expressed concerns with company and county officials earlier this month.

Marshall requests information from residents because he is compiling alternative options for Sabal Trail to lessen the impacts on Lowndes County property owners who oppose the pipeline.
