Even though Christmas is a mere three days away, the holiday shopping season is not over just yet. Aside from Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the next biggest shopping day is Dec. 26. A lot of people are so consumed with traveling and family that they don’t realize that they are missing some of the best sales of the year.

On Dec. 26, retailers begin to frantically discount items that didn’t sell the month before. However, like Black Friday, retailers are expected to start their sales early, and because Dec. 24 falls on Tuesday, it wouldn’t be completely crazy to expect heavy promotion as early as Monday, Dec. 23. So while you keep an eye on the sale papers in The Valdosta Daily Times, I’m going to give you the skinny on the top items you should expect to be after.

Apparel: Clothing and shoes are consistently the most discounted items after Christmas. If you’re looking for that perfect New Year’s Eve outfit, after Christmas is the time to buy it. Glittery, bedazzled, and festive dresses and tops are going to be pushed out to make room for more “in season” clothing. Also expect to find great deals on boots and coats that weren’t bought up for Christmas.

Televisions: Brand-name televisions (especially those in HD) will see more aggressive sales the day after Christmas. Christmas almost marks the end of the year, and retailers are trying to sale older models to make room for 2014 models that will start to come out in January. You won’t see sales this good again until September 2014.

Tech gadgets: Some last-generation gadgets are expected to see discounts as high as 80 percent off.

Christmas décor and wrapping supplies: While Christmas décor is already on sale in many stores, you will see even greater discounts on Dec. 26. It is the best time to buy trees, lights, garland, wreaths and even Christmas wrapping supplies, all of which can be held until next year.

Candy canes: Candy canes stay good for two to three years, so buy them up while they are cheap and save them for next year!

Furniture: Believe it or not, home furniture is seasonal, so expect to see great sales after Christmas. Furniture makers typically release new models in February, so stores try desperately to make floor room in advance.

Fitness gear: Expect to see great deals on fitness gear. January marks the beginning of the peak-selling season, and retailers are very aware of the millions of “get in shape” resolutions coming in January.

Online deals: Don’t forget to peruse a couple of websites between Dec. 23-26. Retailers are not just trying to make room on their store floors, but also in their warehouses.
