I want to give Johnny Bullard special thanks for writing such a good column every week.

Many papers have a venue like R&R, some writers need to do homework prior to writing, but subjects are about our community & all have the right to speak up. Hopefully leadership reads it, getting a clue on what’s often the majority view. Signatures aren’t needed in such cases. Those who reject this forum are probably the ones who want to control everyone else’s lives. People can’t sign comments due to reprisals, a situation opposite of what America stands for. Maybe that’s why the ones griping about signatures don’t sign them either!

Like it or not, what may have worked 50 yrs. ain’t cutting it today. Leadership,(civic & political) needs to listen up & fix it. Most of this column looks to focused on practical land use reform, updated economic & political management & a more equitable tax base. Something wrong with that? The world is constantly changing, always has , always will. Those that refuse to adapt become irrelevant.

I believe Senator Porter has done us a great service in pointing out the misinformation that certain people use to try and make themselves look important. The facts people not distorted, made up ‘facts’ that are not true.

This message is addressed to Mr Wainwright County Commissioner. I have attended many of the County meetings and there are a few things that trouble me. Mr wainwright, you have show little or no patience for people in this county who are opposed to your agenda. If it was in your power you would cut off anyone who doesn’t agree with you. Also, you keep speaking of your invisible majority, who never come to any meetings, never sign any petitions never hold any rallys and never ever reveal themselves. You try to belittle the real majority with your well skilled manipulation. You try to bully and put pressure on your fellow commissioners. You called them all weak because they didn’t agree with you and in reality they showed strength to stand up against your pressure and influence and take a stand with the majority in the county concerning the infectious medical waste incinerator.

My new years request to the federal government, stay the hell out of my life.

I think it is funny that the City Council thinks the 30 MPH speed limit on Helvenston Street will be enforced. Since speeding, routinely running red lights and stop signs, parking in handicap and fire lanes and illegal window tint are not enforced, why do they think Helvenston Street speed limits will be enforced?

Definite Rave for the 4th and 5th grade Accelerated Gifted Students at SIS and their spectacular ‘Jingle Bell Jukebox’ Christmas show on Thursday night. A lot of practice went into that, it was awesome. I applaud Ms. Haney, Ms. Severance and Ms. Roush for their time and attention with the kids and their show. It was fabulous. I had a smile on my face from start to finish!! Great job!!

To the ladies or gentlemen criticizing the Rant and Rave section, it is true that the construct overflows with personal attacks and the like. However, there are plenty of intelligent exchanges. It is exceedingly important that the public be able to voice their opinions to their peers, even if those opinions are poorly constructed and filled with personal attacks. The Rant and Rave section is one of the few places where the public can do such a thing, and as such, it should most certainly not be abolished.

Don’t stop the Rant & Rave. Sometimes the facts might be a little off, but the truth cuts to the bone, those are the ones that say they don’t read it, but can tell you what was in it.

How’s come every time folks get their hackles up with the power brokers round here the first reaction is either Rant & Rave don’t count or if’n ya don’t like it move, maybe the old favorite “sign your name”? ( That’s so they can pin a target on ya.) Could it be that it just might be the gospel truth and they got no justification at all?

To the man or woman advocating for the reinstatement of the Blue Laws, if you are familiar with the establishment clause of our Constitution, you will know that the passing of religious-based laws is unconstitutional. No one is forced to shop on their day of worship, so you need not inconvenience those of us who do not worship.

In your Dec. 20 Rant & Rave, the writer said businesses pay the taxes, also 20 percent pay 100 percent of the taxes. That writer had to be the same guy who spoke at a commission meeting saying that he only say gray hair and Social Security people complaining about the medical waste facility. Well, I see that the supporters of certain industries are the people who will gain. The Democrat listed you folks in their article last week. Yep, you’re for it because you stand to gain. I get a tax bill. I don’t see you paying it. I agree businesses should pack the meetings. That way we can see who supports medical waste and Wainwright waste. The same commissioners that speak out about certain things and then did not accept support from the DCP group.

I read a lot of complaints about the local farmers and I remember a bumper sticker years ago that said next time you complain about farmers, don’t talk with your mouth full, and that keeps coming to mind. They’re the bread and butter of America, so I don’t know, it might be good to give them a compliment now and again. And I wish I could mention businesses by name, not to complain, but because, every business I’ve went to in Branford has treated me like a king. I’m a new resident here and people have really went above and beyond and out of the way and treated me like family, making me feel welcome like they value my business. I for one like Suwannee County, been here a couple of months and like it more everyday.

Avoiding the real problem of planning for the future will be our downfall. Commissioner Bashaw is the only local leader who has a clue. Stay strong Commissioner and bring us into the future please!
