Trojan basketball: Trojans and Lady Trojans repeat as district champions

The Hamilton County High School varsity basketball teams are district champions.

The Lady Trojans, led by coach Greg Taylor, ended the regular season with a district record of 5-1. The team defeated Lafayette 50-42 to win the district championship for the third consecutive year. The Lady Trojans were also the regional runners-up in both 2012 and 2013.

The Trojans, led by coach Patrick Murphy, ended the regular season with a solid 15-8 overall record, but was 8-0 in district play. The Trojans defeated Branford 83-37 to win the district championship for the second consecutive year.

“We just got to take it one game at a time,” said Murphy. “I tell them to stay humble and hungry. That’s what we always say.”

The Lady Trojans play Bronson tonight in the regional semi-finals. The Trojans will play Bronson on Tuesday, Feb. 18. Both games will be played at the Hamilton County Veterans Stadium in Jasper, beginning at 7 p.m.

Admission is $7 per person.
