Qualifying continues until noon Friday for the city of Live Oak election. Candidates for office must qualify by then if they wish to hold any open offices in the city that will be on the May 6 ballot. Those offices up for grabs are mayor (nonpartisan, $17,409.60 annually); city council Districts 1 and 4 (nonpartisan, $14,284.32 annually) and city clerk (nonpartisan, $49,212.80 annually).

As of Thursday morning the announced candidates are: mayor: Garth R. “Sonny” Nobles Jr.; city clerk: Jeanne d’Eauede and John W. Gill (incumbent); city council District 1: John W. Yulee Sr. (incumbent); city council District 4: Frank C. Davis and Jerry L. Poole. Adam Prins is the incumbent for District 4 but has not announced whether he will seek reelection.

Nobles has stated publicly he wasn’t going to seek reelection. However, he told the Democrat the city needs a mayor and decided to announce his candidacy since no one else has announced.

The general election date is May 6 and the run-off election, if needed, is June 10.
