A former Lowndes High and Valdosta State University football star is back behind bars just days after signing an NFL contract.

At approximately 4:30 p.m. Saturday, March 29, a Valdosta Police Department officer patrolling the 100 block of West Alden Avenue spotted the passenger of a white Nissan Maxima not wearing a seat belt. The vehicle was pulled over in the 1900 block of North Patterson Street, and the passenger, Greggory Lamar Reid, 23, was arrested on an active warrant for violation of probation, according to the VPD.

Reid was transported to the Lowndes County Jail and is listed as not bailable. He is not expected to appear before a judge until Monday,

according to the Lowndes County Clerk of Court’s Office.

State Court Judge John Edwards issued the arrest warrant Oct. 29 after Reid failed to check in with his probation officer. The warrant states that Reid last met with his probation officer on Oct. 17 and was past due in paying court-ordered fines and fees in the amount of $393. Reid’s probation began March 14, 2013, and was set to end last month, according to the warrant.

Reid had been given probation following a July 2012 Lowndes County traffic stop that led to an arrest on misdemeanor marijuana possession, driving on a suspended license and seatbelt violation charges, according to reports. The incident resulted in his dismissal from the Florida State University football program after three years as a star player.

Last week, Reid signed with the St. Louis Rams as free agent, and there has been no word on how this arrest will affect his future in the NFL.
