Friends of Music to present Trio De Minaret

The Friends of Music Concert Series concludes its
2013 -1014 season on Friday, May 2. The University of Tampa’s Trio de Minaret will perform at 7:30 p.m. in the Covenant First Presbyterian Church, 421 White Avenue, in Live Oak. The concert is free and open to the public, and a reception will follow.
Trio de Minaret is composed of Lei Liu, violin; Lowell Adams, cello; and Grigorius Zamparas, piano. They will perform works by Ludwig van Beethoven, Gwyneth Walker, and Astor Piazzolla.
Lei Liu is assistant concertmaster of the Florida Orchestra. Previously he has been a
member of the Florida Symphony in Orlando and the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. He is also a dedicated conductor of the Serenade Strings Orchestra in the Pinellas Youth Symphony. He received his bachelors degree from Central Conservatory in Beijing, China, and his masters degree from Temple University. Liu teaches violin and viola at the University of Tampa.
Lowell Adams’ many distinguished teachers included Raya Garbousova and members of the Vermeer Quartet. He holds a bachelors and a masters degree in cello performance from Northern Illinois University and an artist’s diploma from Hart’s School of Music. He has appeared with the St. Louis Symphony, the Grand Rapids Symphony, the Esterhazy Quartet, and the Dorian String Quartet. Adams’ teaching experiences include visiting professor of cello at the University of Missouri and instructor of cello at the University of South Florida, the University of Tampa,
Florida Southern College, Tampa Bay Youth Orchestra, and the Suwannee Music Camp.
Grigorius Zamparas has received critical acclaim for his versatile performing career as recitalist, orchestral soloist, and chamber musician in Greece, Bulgaria, former Yugoslavia, Russia, Latin America, South Korea, and the U.S. He is a frequent guest at festivals worldwide, having performed several times at the prestigious Newport Music Festival (Newport, RI), the Mainly Mozart Festival (Miami, FL), and the Salon of the Arts (Sofia, Bulgaria), among others. He has been featured as a soloist in more than twenty different piano concerti with orchestras such as the Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra (Brazil), Indiana University Symphony (US), Togliati Philharmonic (Russia), the Sofia Soloists, and the B. Martinu Philharmonic of the Czech Republic. Zamparas is assistant professor of music at the University of Tampa where he oversees the piano program. His recordings have been released by Centaur Records.
The Trio will direct the University of Tampa’s Chamber Music Workshop, June 8-13, 2014. This is an intensive music workshop for students of string instruments and piano, entering grades 7 to 12 in the fall.
