Live Oak city councilors decided recently to continue improvements on the city’s potable water system. Three system-wide projects will be undertaken costing taxpayers roughly $193,000.

Live Oak City Manager Kerry Waldron told the board that two projects were divided into two separate groups: system-wide projects that benefit the entire system and local improvement projects which would benefit designated areas. There are three projects within the system-wide category and six within the local improvement projects. Waldron estimated the cost for all nine combined projects would be $653,000; about $193,000 of that is for the three system-wide projects. 

Council President Adam Prins proposed the board move forward with the three system-wide projects to extend and connect the significant main water lines. Waldron agreed the three projects would improve the overall water system by connecting water mains, increasing water pressure and allowing them to flush water from the pipes and eliminate stagnation.

“There is a definite benefit with the system-wide improvements,” said Waldron.

One project will take place on Goldkist Boulevard. Silas Drive will connect to the line at Pinewood Way. The third location will be at Ruby and Main Street. 

“Because they’re short projects where we’re not laying a lot of pipe, we will begin engineering all three of them,” said Waldron. “It will be easier for a contractor to come in and knock them out all at one time.”

Waldron said the plans are being worked on and he expects by July or August for construction to be underway.
