Sept. 21, 1930 – June 3, 2014

Harold William (Bill) Johnson, age 83, of Live Oak, Fla. passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2014 in the VA Medical Center, Gainesville, Fla. He was born in Freeport, Long Island, NY to Harold E. and Jennette T. Johnson.

He is survived by his wife Shirley Simmons Johnson, sister Jean Nelson Dussualt, Long Island, NY, brother Robert, O’ahu, Hawaii. Daughters Donna, Durango, CO., Le’Anne, Sarasota, Fla., Rick, Gulf Port, Fla. Grandsons Ryan, Sarasota, Fla., Tyler and Rhyn both of CA. Great grandson James, CA. Many nieces and nephews also survive. Bill was preceded by son Michael.

Bill served in the U.S. Army during the Korean war. His life’s work after Korea was the construction field primary commercial work of all types. In 1994 he and Shirley made Live Oak, Fla. their home.

Bill enjoyed woodworking, having built the home he shared with Shirley. As a Christian, he made it his ministry to make wooden crosses, both large and small some even lighted. Several churches in Suwannee County and one in Columbia County have many of his crosses in their sanctuary and fellowship hall; as well as other pieces in wood like his praying hands. All were gifts to the churches and to people he came in contact with. Everywhere he went he promoted Jesus as he gave out the crosses, they have been given to missionaries and others who travel and they are now world wide. He has many “fingerprints” in woodwork left as a reminder of his love and dedication of the Lord.

As per his wishes arrangements have been made with ICS and Funeral Home.

ICS Cremation and Funeral Home Lake City, Fla. in charge of all arrangements.
