Qualifying for the August primary ended Friday, June 20. The election will be held Aug. 26.

The books will close for registration on July 28.

“If you haven’t registered by the 28th you can’t vote in the primary,” said Glenda Williams, supervisor of elections. “You can still change addresses up and on election day, but if you aren’t a registered voter in Florida prior to July 28, you can’t vote in the primary.”

Early voting will begin on Saturday, Aug. 16, and end Saturday, Aug. 23. Early voting will no longer be in the elections office but will be at the Judicial Annex in Live Oak, at the public library in Branford and at the J. Ralph Smith Center at Advent Christian Village in Dowling Park.

Offices up for grabs this year locally are county commission seats for Districts 2 and 4; and school board seats for Districts 3, 4 and 5.

County commission District 2 seat is currently held by Clyde Fleming (Dem.) who ran unopposed and will retain his seat.

County commission District 4 seat is currently held by Philip Oxendine. Larry Sessions (Dem.), W.L. “Musky” Musgrove (Dem.) and Harry (Kin) Weaver, Jr. (Rep.), have announced their intent to run. Oxendine (Rep.) has also announced his bid for re-election.

Voters will decide in the primary which Democrat and Republican will make it on the November ballot.

School board District 3 member Julie Ulmer (nonpartisan) will retain her seat since no one contested it and so will Ed daSilva of School board District 4.

School board District 5 (nonpartisan) seat is currently held by J.M. Holtzclaw. Ronald White and Holtzclaw have announced their intent to run.

The following state offices are up this year:

United States representative District 3, currently filled by Ted Yoho (Rep.). Yoho has one Republican, one Democrat and a no-party challenger. The top Republican in the primary will face the Democrat and non-party affiliated candidate in November.

Governor, currently held by Rick Scott (Rep.) The top Republican and top Democrat will go on the November ballot with all non-party affiliated candidates.

Attorney general, currently held by Pam Bondi (Rep.). Bondi is the only qualified Republican that announced. She will go on the November ballot with the top Democratic candidate from the primary, along with a Libertarian Party of Florida candidate.

Chief financial officer, currently held by Jeff Atwater (Rep.). Atwater and Democrat William Rankin will go on the November ballot.

Commissioner of agriculture, currently held by Adam Putnam (Rep.). Putnam and Democrat Thaddeus Hamilton will go on the November ballot. They have a write-in challenger, Jeffrey M. Obos.

State representative for District 10, currently held by Elizabeth Porter (Rep.) Porter has two challengers that qualified, according to the state elections office, write-in candidates Wendy Martin, McAlpin resident; and Barbara Ann Prince, O’Brien resident. This race will be decided in November.

District Court of Appeal for District 1, Robert T. Benton (NOP), Joseph Lewis Jr. (NOP), Scott Makar (NOP), Tim Osterhaus (NOP) and Clay Roberts (NOP).

Third Circuit judge for Group 4, Greg Parker (NOP); Group 6, Mark Feagle (NOP); and Group 7, Leandra G. Johnson (NOP). They are all unopposed.
