At approximately midnight, a concerned citizen called 911 to report suspicious activity at Steel’s Jewelry, 3338 Country Club Road.

The unknown offenders entered the store by smashing the glass on the front door. Several glass jewelry cases inside the store were broken, but it is unclear how many items were taken or how much they were worth. Some jewelry was recovered near the scene, reports stated.

“There’s really only three or four cases that were damaged. We have to do inventory to see what was taken, but we can’t tell much at this point,” said Chuck Steel, owner of Steel’s Jewelry.

If any items were taken during the robbery, they would have been inexpensive, said Steel.

“Everything of value was locked up in the safe,” said Steel. “Insurance requires that we lock up everything at night.”

The glass door was repaired Thursday morning, and the store is open for business as usual.

Police continued investigating after a search of the surrounding area did not yield any suspects, reports stated.

The Valdosta Police Department asks anyone with information about the incident to call (229) 293-3145.
