A Live Oak man was arrested and charged with attempted first degree murder with a deadly weapon following a shooting that took place at an Easter egg hunt, according to Live Oak Police Sgt. Justin Bates. 

According to Bates, Rossie Laparis Jackson, 25, 502 Church St., Live Oak, was at his residence and was sitting on his front porch when officers passing by recognized him. Bates said LOPD officers then proceeded to arrest him on warrant charges. 

Bates said on Sunday, April 20, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Decroyo Green, 31, of Live Oak, and Jackson got into an argument during an Easter egg hunt behind African Baptist Church, located in the 500 block of Walker Avenue. The egg hunt was not sponsored by the church. The argument then escalated into a physical fight. Aukeame Beasley, 24, Live Oak, then stabbed Green at which point the fight broke up.

As Green was fleeing the area, Jackson reportedly started shooting at Green from about 100 yards away. Green, armed himself, reportedly fired back at Jackson. The two were injured with an unknown number of injuries and transported to area hospitals for medical treatment.

Bates said Green faces charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of cannabis. Jackson and Beasley, who also had a gun, face charges of attempted homicide and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. 

Beasley and Green are still at large, according to Bates.
