VALDOSTA — Valdosta Middle School Players sixth-graders present an Evening of Shorts and Skits today.
The school theatre group will present four short plays and three monologues.
VMS Players Director Toni Jarvis selected these plays from Plays magazine.
“The magazine is great because I get eight plays a month with royalties included as long as the school is a subscriber,” Jarvis said. “It has different ranges of performance level from elementary theatre to high school theatre.”
The students will present “Echo and Narcissus” by Tracy Wells, “The Brazilian Cat” by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, “Humpty Dumpty and the Mysterious Fall” by Mary Mitchell, “Greek Peek” by Carol Wise. Monologues are “Hair Raising Tale,” “Fun and Games” and “Not Guilty.”
Some are comedic; some, dramatic.
“When I picked these shows I wanted to try something that I have never brought to the stage before,” Jarvis said. “So I chose a collection of Greek stories for one class and a collection of mysteries for the other. It has been a great learning experience for both myself and my students.”
Most of the plays are traditional theatre, but one was written originally as a radio play; it will be presented in readers theatre format.
