- Rant & Rave
Attended the City Council Meeting Monday night and learned that, we the tax payers, are paying $750k a year for City Department Heads. WOW!!!! My question is why? Why do we need a PW Director when we have a PW Contractor and a Contracted Engineer? Why do we need both a Finance Director and an Assistant Finance Director? Unless I’m mistaken, the City does not employ public works employees, so who exactly does the PW Director oversee? OMI? Eutaw? I would think the City Manager could handle this responsibility. The Finance department has maybe 8 people employed. Why do you need two managers? Ever heard of, “Too many Chiefs”. Sad wasteful Spending. On a positive note, I would like to commend our City Council for providing, yet again, another enjoyable comedy show. Particularly enjoyed the yelling by Councilman Thomas regarding an envelope. Great Job! Glad the Cities best interest is what your seeking. SAD!

I’m glad the City Council is using their time wisely and adopting a policy on opening mail. What a joke.

Got nothing but respect for a persons right to worship, but we got a lot of big non-profit churches owning comm. property & running quasi comm. ventures, incl. entertainment, making a good tax free buck. These aren’t public venues and look after their own. “Taste of Suwannee” is prime example, if this is a public promotion for commercial & gov’t. funded educational entities, it should be held at a public, secular location. Wonder if tourism development is funneling tax money into this? How about a look at the land being bought by Bill Gates? Is this under one of his non-profit foundations? Is it pulling it off tax rolls? At the very least it’s getting ag exemptions & subsidies while sinking pivot wells & using our resources. The proceeds from this are going elsewhere. All sorts of ops. set up here to exploit the resources & tax base, placing the burden on regular folks, This country was founded on blood over taxation without representation. The nontaxpayers wield a lot of power & represent very special self serving interests while our local gov’t encourages this. Just cause it’s legal don’t make it good!

This is a great, great big rave and thank you for all who worked diligently to honor and thank our Lord and Savior for America and the freedoms we have because of our military veterans and all our present military. Most people are saying “God Bless America.” We are saying “America, Bless God.” The activities on this Nov. 2014 Veterans Day here in Live Oak shows Americans blessing God. How wonderful, how beautiful.

A Rave for the Westwood Baptist Church choir, a very gifted group of singers who lead us in worship each Sunday. How di this choir of 60 get reduced to such a small group in the special report on choirs last week?

This is for the person who stole the turkeys from 169th Road. They are pets. If you are that hungry come to the house, I will give you food. Stealing is a sin.

Yes, could you tell me do you have anything else to write about besides than Ruby McCollum. Let her rest in peace. I mean if it was your relative, how would you feel? Yes I am a relative and close relative and I don’t appreciate all this hoopla in the paper. Please. I mean, really.

Why didn’t the County Commissioners openly vote for the new Commission Chairman? In case you didn’t attend the Nov. 18th meeting, a new Commission Chairman was elected by secret ballot. When Mr. Harris offered that ballots had been made up and it was just a suggestion, all commissioners except Ricky Gamble wanted to secretly cast their vote. Mr. Gamble went along with the other’s wishes but didn’t appear to have a problem voting as they previously had done, where everyone attending would know how they had cast their votes. What’s the big secret? Why didn’t the others want us to know who they voted for. So much lip service to transparency and open government.
