At the Nov. 18 meeting of the Suwannee County Board of County Commissioners, Florida Department of Transportation Public Transportation Manager Jordan Green announced the DOT’s five year plan for Suwannee County. The projects on the plan are tentatively set for construction between 2016 and 2020, and the budgets for the projects total approximately $49 million, which the DOT will be paying for.
“Thanks to Suwannee and Madison counties, the DOT is looking at every interchange to get those lit in our rural areas as part of our safety initiative,” said Green, alluding to Commissioner Clyde Fleming’s concerns at previous BOCC meetings about lighting at interstate interchanges. “We appreciate the hard work that you all did to get that initiative out there.”
Lighting projects are planned for the interchanges of I-10 and C.R. 137, U.S. 129, and U.S. 90 at exit 275. Other projects include sidewalks throughout Branford, a bridge replacement for the C.R. 250 Suwannee River Bridge, and the Live Oak Rail Trail bike path from U.S. 90 to the southern city limit of Live Oak. Resurfacing is planned for U.S. 129 from the Live Oak city limit to U.S. 90, S.R. 51 from the Lafayette County line to the Nott Circle roundabout, C.R. 136 from east C.R. 417 to I-75, a C.R. 252 extension from S.R. 51 to C.R. 250, and 240th St. from U.S. 129 to 65th Rd.
