Bobby Jones Harrison

Bobby Jones Harrison of Williamson, Ga., passed away at Brightmoor Hospice in Griffin on Thursday, Nov. 27, 2014 with his loving family surrounding him.

Born in Concord,  on May 24, 1927 to Joel E. Harrison, Sr. and Sara Chappell Harrison, Bobby was the youngest of four children.  Bobby’s family moved to Williamson when his father became the Rural Letter Carrier there.  Bobby loved Williamson and served as mayor for many years after his retirement.  Many have said that Williamson will not be the same without Mr. Bobby.

Bobby is survived by his wife of 63 1/2 years, Betty Cannafax Harrison, his daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Howard Tessin of Lake Park; son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Lori Harrison of Williamson; grandchildren, Blanton and Lindsey Tessin of Birmingham, Rebecca Tessin of New York City, Jonathan Tessin and his fiancé, Morgan French of Chamblee,  Emily and Tim Bethune of Griffin, Drew Harrison and his girlfriend Stefanie Thibedeux  of Jacksonville, Fla.;  great-grandsons, Brady and Bowen Bethune of Griffin and Hank Tessin of Birmingham.  He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Betty E. Harrison of Chapel Hill, N.C. and Evelyn Harrison of Griffin and a brother-in-law Bill and June Cannafax of Good Hope, Ga.; several nieces and nephews and cousins and his caretakers, Willie Mae Hixson, Sophia Findley, and Sandra Miller.  His parents and his siblings, Edith Reeves, Edgar Harrison, and Miller Harrison and a brother-in-law, Leyman Reeves preceded him in death.

Bobby was a Rural Letter Carrier in Williamson and had served as the State Secretary for the Georgia Rural Letter Carriers’ Association.  He was a member of the National Association of the Rural Letter Carriers’ Association, the Williamson Caboose Club and the Pike County Lions Club.  He had also served on the Board of Directors for United Bank, served as Chairman of the Pike County Commissioners, Board of Trustees of the Mt. Zion Campground, and many positions in the Williamson United Methodist Church.  Mr. Harrison served several terms as the Mayor of Williamson.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov.  30, 2014  at 3 p.m. at the Williamson United Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery.
