Eva Inez Crews

Oct. 26, 1921 – Dec. 29, 2014

Eva Inez Crews, 93, of Mayo, FL, passed away Dec. 29, 2014, at Lake City Medical Center in Lake City, Fla.  Eva was born Oct. 26, 1921 in Mayo, Fla., to the late Dennis  Green and Eula (Williams) Green.

Inez was preceded in death by her husband Dempsey D. Crews.  Inez was a hard worker and very independent.  She was a dedicated mother and grandmother who was always proud of her family.  Eva was of the Baptist Faith and attended Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Suwannee County.  She owned a vacation rental business in Steinhatchee, Fla., a family farm in Lafayette County, sold Avon for 40 years and retired as the Civil Defense Director for Lafayette County.

Inez is survived by her daughter Marion McCray, of Mayo, Fla., two grandsons: Robert McCray and his wife Angie and Patrick McCray and his wife Christy; four great grandchildren: Cain and Hannah McCray, Taylor Rackley and Brooke Walker; and three great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Suwannee County on Friday, Jan. 2, 2015 at 11 a.m. with Bro. “Cooter” McCray, Bro. Fred Edwards, and Bro. Carl Chauncey officiating.  The family received friends from 6 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015 at Joe P. Burns Funeral Home of Mayo.  All arrangements were under the care of Joe P. Burns Funeral Home.

Lula “Lu” Morgan Bittle

Sept. 15, 1939 – Jan. 3, 2015

Lula “Lu” Bittle, 75, of Mayo, Fla., passed away Jan. 3, 2015, at Lafayette Health Care in Mayo following an extended illness. Mrs. Bittle was born Sept. 15, 1939 in Mayo, Fla., to Grover C. Morgan and Lillian Murray Morgan. She was of the Baptist faith and a longtime and active member of New Hope Baptist Church in Mayo where she was very involved in working with small children, including the Awanas. Mrs. Bittle was a graduate of Lafayette High School and worked as an insurance agent for Capitol Insurance Company for 35 years. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling, going to the beach, spending time with her friends and family, and helping anyone she could. She was preceded in death by her parents, Grover C. and Lillian Murray Morgan, her husband Charlie T. Bittle, in 2008, a brother, John W. Morgan, and a sister, Doris Morgan Calhoun.

Mrs. Bittle is survived by her daughter, Brenda L. Ducksworth, of Mayo,  three

granddaughters, Jessica Hampton, Crystal Hampton, and Elizabeth Turner, 5 Great-grandchildren, Autumn, Bubby, Aubrey, Brice, and C. J., and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held at New Hope Baptist Church on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015 at 11 a.m. in Mayo with Bro. Charlie Walker officiating and Bro. Randy Waters assisting.  Interment followed in New Hope Baptist Cemetery. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 5, 2015 also at New Hope Baptist Church. All arrangements are under the care of Joe P. Burns Funeral Home of Mayo.
