John Clayton Mathis, age 87, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015 in Madison. He was manager and supervisor of Van H. Priest Co. for many years. He is survived by his wife, Elsie McGee Mathis; one daughter, Jane Meenan (Michael) Houston, Texas; one sister, Carolyn Daarud, Bonnie Lake,  Washington; one brother, Ronnie L. Mathis, Jennings, Fla.

Visitation was Monday Jan. 12, 2015 at Beggs Funeral Home in Madison, Fla. from 4 – 6 p.m. Funeral services were Tuesday Jan. 13, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Grace Presbyterian Church in Madison; interment followed in Live Oak, Fla. at the Live Oak City Cemetery.

Leroy Walker

Feb. 17, 1946 – Jan. 8, 2015

Leroy Walker, age 68, passed away, Jan. 8, 2015 at his home in Dasher, GA. following a lengthy illness. Mr. Walker was born in Echols County, GA. on Feb. 17, 1946 to the late Adam and Irene Thornton Walker. He retired from Gold Kist/ADM in Valdosta. More than anything Leroy enjoyed sitting around with his family and friends shooting the breeze. Leroy was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Jr., Richard, Averett and Daniel.

Survivors include three sons, Joey Walker (Stephanie), Santa Fe, Texas, Bobby Walker (Ronda), Statenville, GA.  and Donnie Walker, Lake Park, GA.; two daughters, Shirley Young (Rickey), Valdosta, GA. and Tonda Hammac (Scotty), Lake Park, GA.; three brothers, Coy Walker, Fla.., Larry Walker, Valdosta, GA.  and Gary Walker, Fla.; two sisters, Linda Grace Willis, Valdosta, GA.  and Carolyn Mixon, Clyattville, GA; nineteen grandchildren and  fifteen great grandchildren. Also surviving Leroy is the mother of his children and his friend, Ann Walker of Valdosta, GA.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 12, 2015 at Harry T. Reid Funeral Home in Jasper, Fla. with Rev. Larry Giddens and Rev. Rickey Young, Jr. officiating.

Interment followed at Carter Cemetery in Echols County.

Harry T. Reid Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
