DASHER — Georgia Christian basketball had an impressive showing Monday night at home against Fullington Academy, as both varsity teams recorded double-digit wins. The GCS girls used a stout second quarter defensive effort to oust Fullington 63-51, while the Generals poured in 10 3-pointers and a big second half to rout the Trojans 84-59.

The GCS girls outrebounded Fullington 37-28 and held a 20-16 advantage from the foul line in what was a solid overall performance. Six Georgia Christian players had seven points or more, paced by Christina Blair’s 14. Blair heated up in the second half, scoring five quick points in the third quarter, to ensure that the Trojans were kept at arm’s length.

Emmy Copeland, Erin Copeland, Deven Bordelon and Morgan Sykes had 11, 11, nine and seven points, respectively. Haley Garrett dominated the paint for the Generals, who improved to 12-3 with the win. She finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds, registering the game’s only double-double.

For Fullington, Lauren McIntyre scored 20 points to lead all scorers. Guards Rachel McClesky and Meredith McGlamory followed with 14 and 11, respectively. The Trojans’ backcourt duo scored all but six of their points in the second half, but the rally was quelled by solid free throw shooting and timely rebounding by Georgia Christian.

In a contest that featured two technical fouls, two flagrant fouls and one ejection, the Georgia Christian boys ran away from Fullington in the second half on the strength of Jake Elliott and Jeremiah Beverly.

The Generals held just a nine-point advantage at the break, but Elliott caught fire from 3-point range in the third quarter to help his team pull away. The guard hit four of his seven 3s in the period and finished with a game-high 30 points. Beverly also had a strong second half, as Fullington simply didn’t have an answer for the guard’s driving ability. He finished the contest with 20 points and five rebounds.

Late in the fourth quarter, Beverly put the exclamation point on the Generals’ victory with a one-handed slam on a fast break. He was fouled flagrantly on the play and took a scary fall, but played until the two minute mark when the starters were pulled.

Both Georgia Christian teams will be back in action tonight when they play Highland Christian Academy in Valdosta.
