James K. Baird Sr.
Jan. 21, 1930 – Jan. 17, 2015
James K. Baird Sr., age 84, of Mayo, Fla. passed away Jan. 17, 2015 at his residence. A memorial service will be announced at a later date followed by a private burial.
Mr. Baird was born Jan. 21, 1930 in Jacksonville, Fla. to the late Joseph T. Baird Sr. and Irene Bennett Baird. He was a retired MSgt of the United States Air Force and a veteran of the Vietnam War. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in the death by his wife, Lois Mattox Baird, and brothers; Joseph T. Baird Jr., and Buddy Baird.
He is survived by sons, James (June) Baird of Columbus, MS, and Larry Keith (Kathy) Baird of Columbus, MS; daughters, Karen (Mike) Daniel of Columbus, MS, and Linda (Steve) Storm, of Biloxi, MS. He leaves eleven grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Mary Ruth (John) Cowart Jacksonville, Fla. and sister Edie of Jacksonville, Fla.

Marie Ethel Winburn
Nov. 20, 1912 – Jan. 21, 2015
Marie Ethel Winburn, 102, of Mayo, Fla., passed away Jan. 21, 2015, at Haven Hospice in Lake City. Marie was born Nov. 20, 1912 in Taylor County, to A.M. Parker and Cora Lee Parker (Fletcher).
Ms. Winburn was of the Baptist Faith and was a member of Mayo Baptist Church. Marie attended Lafayette County High School and taught one year in Day. She was a substitute teacher for Lafayette Elementary many years; taught Sunday School until age 95. She enjoyed her family, friends and loved her church family. She played the piano by note and ear and memory until she was 101. She played Happy Birthday to herself on the piano at her 100th birthday party. She was a wonderful Christian and saintly woman who glowed with the love of Jesus. She was often called Ms. Sunshine by her friends and Gramma Ree by most everyone else. She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Winburn; son in laws, Edward Koon and Ronald Coulter and one grandchild, Michael Clinton Taylor; one sister, Mag Land; two brothers, John Parker and Marion Parker.
Ms. Winburn is survived by four daughters; Cora Jane Koon, Jo Marie Williams (Buddy), Margaret (Margie) Doan Dedge, and Kathleen Holland (Howard), all of Mayo; Twelve grandchildren; Michael, Kevin (Sonya), Cindy(Ben), Richard, Tim (Lynn), Tom(Louise) Julie(Steve), Dean(Carrie), Charles (LeeAnn), Tom T.(Helen), Kim (Joseph) and Misti (Frank); twenty great grandchildren; one great great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held at Mayo Baptist Church on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, with Rev. David McMullen, Rick James and Chip Parker officiating. Interment followed at Bethel Cemetery in Mayo. Visitation was from 2 – 3 p.m. with the service immediately following on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015 at Mayo Baptist Church.
Memorial contributions can be made to Haven Hospice of Lake City or Mayo Baptist Building Fund. All arrangements are under the care of Joe P. Burns Funeral Home.

Mike McNeil
Dec. 20, 1948 – Jan. 20, 2015
Mike McNeil, age 66, of Mayo, Fla. passed away Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015 at Shands Live Oak following a sudden illness. He was born in Durham, N.C. raised in San Mateo, Fla. moving to Mayo in 1995 from Palatka, Fla. He worked as a Correctional Officer for the State of Florida and was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in Viet Nam. He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend. He loved flea marketing, traveling and attending volleyball games supporting his granddaughters and was a member of the ProStyle Volleyball Boosters. At his hunting camp in Howard Creek, he was affectionally known as “The Camp Elder”.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon McNeil, Mayo, Fla.; three sons, Kevin (Jessica) McNeil, Sneads, Fla.; Richard Benstine, Metairie, LA; James Benstine, Mayo, Fla.; one daughter, Tracy (Ricky) Cloud, Sneads, Fla.; two sisters, Rita (Jackie) Arrington and Claudette McNeil, both of Palatka, Fla.; five grandchildren, two great grandchildren and nine nieces and nephews.
Viewing and visitation was held Friday, Jan. 23, 2015 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Rubye Walker Starr
April 15, 1952 – Jan. 16, 2015
Rubye Walker Starr, age 62, passed away on Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, at Shands of Jacksonville after a brief illness. Rubye was born April 15, 1952, in Mayo, Florida, to the late Eunice and Carl Walker of Mayo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bo Starr of Jacksonville; her brother, Randall Walker, of Mayo; her sister, Sadie Walker, of Mayo; and her parents Mr. and Mrs. Carl Walker, of Mayo.
Rubye graduated from Lafayette High School as valedictorian of her class in 1970 and moved to Jacksonville where she was employed with IBM for several years.
She is survived by three sisters: Frances Lawson (Levis), of Mayo, Fla.; Marion Sullivan (Jimmie), of Perry, Fla.; Deborah Johnson (RL), of Live Oak, Fla.; and two brothers: Carlton Walker (Shirley), of Mayo, Fla.; and Ned Walker (Monteze) of Lee, Fla.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Midway Baptist Church on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015, at 10 a.m. with Reverend Danny Rogers officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Community Hospice, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32257.
