Branford Buccaneers fall to Hamilton County in district basketball action

The Branford High School basketball team fell to district foe Hamilton County High School Trojans Friday night by a score of 73-37. The loss ended Branford’s continuation in the district tournament.

With the win, the Trojans made the playoffs and played Lafayette High School Saturday night. The Trojans defeated the Lafayette Hornets 82-55 to win their third consecutive district championship. The Trojans will play Bell at home in the regional semifinals Tuesday, Feb. 17.

This was the second year in a row the Branford Buccaneers have got to move on in the district tournament. The Bucs came into the tournament 0-8 in district play but beat Melody Christian Academy in the first round Tuesday night, Feb. 3, 71-48.

Hamilton County is the 1A District 5 champions for boys basketball with a district record of 8-0; Jefferson County is the runners-up with a record of 5-2.
