PHENIX CITY, Ala. (AP) — Jurors have recommended the death penalty for an east Alabama woman who was convicted of hiring a gunman to kill her troubled, 20-year-old daughter.
The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports (http://bit.ly/18UTOCv) that a Russell County jury found Lisa Graham of Phenix City, Alabama guilty of capital murder on Thursday.
The bullet-riddled body of her Graham’s daughter, Stephanie Shea Graham, was found along a roadside in 2007. Authorities said she had been shot six times.
Prosecutors say Lisa Graham wanted her daughter killed because she felt that she was destroying her marriage and ruining her life.
The gunman, Kenneth Walton, confessed to the killing and is serving a life prison sentence. Walton testified last week against Lisa Graham, saying she asked him to kill the daughter, and he did so as “a favor.”
