- Suwannee High School students Danielle Watson, left, and Hailey Ambrose are gathering prom dresses to give to young women who cannot afford one this year.
Proms can be exciting events that highlight many a high schoolers’ experience, but these dances often come with hefty price tags attached. Two girls at Suwannee High School, Hailey Ambrose and Danielle Watson, are looking to lift some of that burden off their classmates by gathering prom dresses to be donated to those who cannot afford one.
A few weeks ago, Hailey, a 10th grader, and Danielle, an 11th grader, were talking about finding their own dresses when they thought of starting a prom dress donation program.
“We know there’s a lot of girls who struggle with the expenses of getting dresses,” said Danielle.
“We thought prom dresses were the biggest expense of prom, and it might take the weight off some girls’ shoulders of also having to pay for hair and nails and all of that,” Hailey said.
If you have a prom dress you would like to donate, please contact Hailey’s mom, Rebecca Ambrose, at 386-590-0410. There are no restrictions on size, style, or age of dress or other formal clothing to be donated. Donations are needed by Sunday, March 15.
Branford High School’s 2015 prom is Saturday, April 18, at the BHS gymnasium. Suwannee High School’s 2015 prom is Saturday, May 9, at Camp Weed and Cerveny Conference Center in Live Oak.
