Man’s DNA leads to 2014 burglaries

A Live Oak man was arrested Friday, March 20 on warrants for several incidences of burglary and robbery in 2014, according to Live Oak Police Department reports.

On Jan. 9, 2014, Adalles El-Shabazz Allen, 19 (then 18), 195 Richardson St., Live Oak, was positively identified in surveillance footage of a robbery outside Pepe’s Grocery Store and Restaurant, according to the LOPD reports. In the footage, two black males were seen targeting a victim inside the store before one, identified as Allen, snatched the victim’s purse outside of the store, according to the reports. The stolen property included $60 in cash, a Samsung Galaxy cell phone, and identification cards. A warrant was issued for Allen’s arrest for robbery by sudden snatching.

On Aug. 7, 2014, a victim on 6th St. in Live Oak suspected Allen for breaking into her home, the LOPD reports state. The victim told officers she followed the suspect, who was on a bike she had seen in her front yard earlier. The victim recognized the suspect as Allen, who denied entering her home. A probable cause affidavit for burglary was filed on Allen.

On Oct 29, 2014, Allen was again suspected for breaking and entering into a home, this time on 8th St. in Live Oak. Victims reported seeing a long-haired black male with a white T-shirt wrapped around his hand in their living room before he exited through a side door, according to the LOPD reports. It appeared Allen had entered through a living room window, the reports state. A white T-shirt with blood on it was recovered underneath an abandoned house next door to the burgled home. LOPD also found a pry bar, located underneath a sofa in front of the window the suspect entered through.

According to the reports, the bloodstained T-shirt was sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement crime lab for DNA testing. On Jan. 27, 2015, the LOPD received a positive result from the FDLE matching Allen’s DNA to the blood on the T-shirt. A warrant was issued for Allen’s arrest for burglary of a dwelling via stealthy entry.

Allen was arrested and booked into the Suwannee County Jail on Friday, March 20, for burglary of a dwelling, robbery by sudden snatching, and burglary of a dwelling via stealthy entry, according to Suwannee County Jail records.
