Jeremiah Cumbess, age 77, of Jasper, Fla., passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, Georgia following an illness of some time. Jeremiah was born on Aug. 13, 1937 in Jasper to the late John and Renner Bass Cumbess. Jerry, as he was fondly referred to, was always a hard worker in the welding industry. Everyone that knew him could tell you, if it was broke, Jerry could fix it. He enjoyed being outdoors whether it  was in the garden planting something, on the riverbank fishing or just sitting on the porch in his rocker watching the birds that he loved so much. The greatest day ever was whatever day his children or grandchildren were going to be stopping in to visit and maybe even have a cup of coffee with him. Mr. Cumbess proudly served his country in the United States Army and was of the Church of God faith. Jeremiah was predeceased by his parents, his two brothers, Johnny and Jesse Cumbess and a sister, Genester Cooper.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Audrey Denmark Cumbess; one son, Eddie Cumbess (Rhonda)  of Valdosta, Ga.; three daughters, Gina Cumbess, Jasper, Fla., Lisa Newsome (Larry), Jennings, Fla. and Vicki McGauley (Chris), Jasper, Fla.; one sister, Judy Lee, Live Oak, Fla.; 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and two great grands “on the way”. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 11, 2015, in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home in Jasper. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery.

Harry T. Reid Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
