Spotlight on business: fab’rik

Fab’rik offers a multitude of styles.

VALDOSTA — The company fab’rik got its start 13 years ago when Dana Spinola decided to leave her corporate work to start her own boutique, focusing on stylish clothes while keeping everything under $100.

The new Valdosta fab’rik location just opened a few weeks ago, but its start can be traced back to 2012.

That’s when store owner/manager Naiz Bolin walked into a fab’rik store.

Bolin, who at the time was finishing a degree in broadcast journalism while working as an Atlanta Falcon’s cheerleader, was looking for a part-time job and a friend recommended she look into a fab’rik store in Buckhead.

“I ended up getting my paycheck and giving it right back to the company,” laughed Bolin. “I fell in love with the concept and knew this was my dream job.”

When the opportunity came up last fall to open a Georgia location, Bolin went for it.

Her fiancé, Brett McNeill, encouraged her to look into Valdosta.

“He knew this is what I’ve always wanted to do and he encouraged me to take a leap of faith,” said Bolin.

Bolin went through the interview process and started prepping the space in early February, tearing down a dividing wall between two vacant buildings, removing the drop ceiling and adding a floor-to-ceiling coating of white paint.

“We wanted to go all white, very contemporary, upbeat,” said Bolin. “Kind of your California vibe.

“Our clothes come from L.A. We get everything private labeled and we actually have our own line, Asher, that we have designed specifically for our stores.”

Along with clothes, fab’rik also offers purses, bracelets, necklaces, shoes, hats and candles.

The store sticks to Spinola’s original goal of keeping everything under $100, except in the case of some of the designer label denim the store carries: Citizen, Hudson, Blank and Flying Monkey, among others.

Giving back to the community is also a focus of fab’rik.

“Free fab’rik,” a company-wide program, provides clothing and shopping sprees to women in need. Currently, the company is getting a shipment of clothes ready for City of Refuge in Atlanta.

Locally, Bolin wants to take in clothes donations twice a year and invite women from local shelters to outfit them with job interview-ready business attire, along with other clothing.

“We try to help them get out of unemployment.

“We want to get more involved with the community. In three years, I want this to be a staple store for Valdosta, for college students, for women, even for high school students.”

fab’rik is located at 3255-C Inner Perimeter Road

It is open 10 a.m. until 7 p.m., Monday-Saturday; noon until 5 p.m. Sunday.
