Tops In Blue presents a family-friendly show that’s equal parts patriotic and
celebratory of the nation’s vast cultural influences.
Before performing in venues nationwide, a South Georgian helps find the right musical mix each year.
Barry Best, a South Georgia musician, composer, music director, and producer, has arranged the musical scores, conducted member auditions and more with Tops In Blue for about 20 years.
The 2015 Tops In Blue show is “Freedom’s Song,” Best told The Valdosta Daily Times, “and is based upon the freedoms we enjoy as Americans and those serving in the military who protect those freedoms.”
Best travels each spring to develop the new Tops In Blue show in Texas. He recently returned to his Valdosta-area residence from preparing this production. The Tops In Blue Team performed the show three times in San Antonio, plays one other city, then performs for Valdosta at Wild Adventures.

While the theme is patriotic, the show touches upon current hits and pop hits from the past.
“The show this year includes songs from the current top of the charts, as well as a retrospective of some of the top songs from the early 1900s through the ’90s,” Best said.
“Also, some of your favorite heroes may make an appearance, like Disney’s Hercules and some of the Avengers. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get the Hulk to calm down enough to sing a song, but the rest are well represented.”
Audiences will see a performing troupe of more than 20 singers and a 10-piece band while a six-member technical crew works behind the scenes, Best said.
A Moody Air Force Base release notes: “You’ll hear the exciting sounds of Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Megan Trainor and other artists. The show will also showcase great country music from Carrie Underwood, Andy Grammer, Randy Howser and the Eli Young Band.”
