Milton Mizell

January 13, 1935 – June 15, 2015

Milton Mizell, 80, passed away from health complications on June 15, 2015 in Miami, FL. He was born January 13, 1935, the youngest son of Houston Mizell and Lillie Roberts Mizell of Jasper, FL. In 1954, he married Jeanette Cecil Mizell and relocated to Miami, FL.  Milton spent much of his early adult life in Miami before retiring to White Springs, FL, where he was a faithful and devoted member of Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church, serving on both the Usher Board and the Board of Trustees.

Milton is survived by Jeanette Cecil Mizell, daughter Cheryl Ceylon Mizell, son Milton Anthony Mizell, daughter Beverly (Leo) Mizell-Missoudan, granddaughter Maya Missoudan, all of Miami, Florida; a brother, Bernard Mizell of St. Petersburg, FL, and two sisters, Reverend Doris (Willis) Mizell Simmons of Lake Wales, FL and Rubye (Edgar Sr.) Mizell Lumpkin; a sister-in-law, Lucile Mizelle of Lake City, FL, and brothers-in-law Reverend Edward Jones, John (Debra) Wesley Jones, Hubert (Macie) Jones, Herbert Jones, and Joe Jones, Sr.; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Milton was preceded in death by his brothers Robert Lee Mizelle and Alton Carl Mizelle, Sr.; and sisters Alberta Mizell Cross, Evie Mizelle Alexander, Bernice Mizell McIntosh, and Artis Mizell.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 26, 2015, at Mizell’s Funeral Home in Lake City, FL. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 27, 2015, Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church in White Springs, FL.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts in Milton’s memory to support the completion of the Black Bay Community Center, a project near and dear to his heart. William L. Srygley Sr.

Jan. 13, 1941 – June 19, 2015

 

William L. Srygley Sr., 74, of Jennings, Florida, died Friday, June 19, 2015 at Suwanee Valley Care Center, Haven Hospice in Lake City, Florida. He was born on Jan. 13, 1941 in Guys, Tennessee to the late William Troy Srygley and Dora Allene Mullins Srygley.  

Mr. Srygley was retired from the Memphis, Tenn. Police Department and Roadway Express. He was a member of the Jennings, Fla. City Council. Mr. Srygley was a United States Navy Veteran and was of the Catholic faith.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Ann Srygley of Jennings, Fla.; two daughters and sons in law, Joanne and Billy McGehee of Valdosta, Lisa M. and Tom Hutchinson of Jasper, Fla.; one son and daughter in law, William Larry Jr. and Lilli Srygley of Lake Park, nine grandchildren, Nicole Benefield (Christopher), Christina Sefers, Catherine Williams (Jay), David McGehee (Maria), Thomas J. (T. J.) Hutchinson, Evan Hutchinson, Jacquelyn Srygley, Savannah Srygley and William Larry Srygley III and six great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents and his sister, Doris Joanne Ethridge.

Luther J. Griner

June 18, 2015

Luther J. Griner, 90, Jasper, Fla., passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2015. The Nashville, Ga. native moved to Jasper in 1953 from Georgia. He was a WWII Veteran while serving in the Army, a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Jasper.

Mr. Griner is survived by his wife: Jane Griner, Jasper, Fla.; two daughters: Pat Monroe, Alachua, Fla., Karen (Charlie) Shaw, White Springs, Fla.; one son: Jerry (Clyda) Griner, Jasper, Fla.; one brother: Ernest (Iris) Griner, Bushnell, Fla.; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

    Services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 21 at First United Methodist Church in Jasper with Rev. Edgar Wood, Rev. Gordan VaNamme, and Rev. Steve Redman officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Jasper. There was a visitation held on Saturday, June 20 from 6-8 p.m. at Daniels Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hospice of Citrus County,3350 W Audubon Park Path, Lecanto, FL 34461.

James B. Shaw

June 21, 2015

James B. Shaw, age 71, of Jasper, Fla., passed away at his home June 21, 2015. James lived in Hamilton County most all of his life. He was the son of Ms. Ruby Register Shaw of White Springs and the late J.W. Shaw. James worked at Occidental/PCS for 35 years before retiring.

He later went to work for the Hamilton County School Board in security. Fishing and racing cars were always at the top of his list when he wasn’t working. Along with these past-time activities there was always a joke or a story to go along with it.

James served his country in the United States Army and was a faithful member of Divonia Baptist Church in Jasper, Fla.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Carolyn Raines Shaw; two sons, Bruce Driggers (Erin) of Jasper, Fla. and Phillip A. Shaw (Cindy) of Monroe, La.; one daughter, Amanda Shaw (Bobby Eason), Jasper, Fla.; his mother, Ruby Shaw of White Springs, Fla.; one brother, Robert Taylor (Linda), Lakeland, Fla.; one sister, Cheryl Skipper (Donnie), White Springs, Fla.; four grandchildren, Bradley and Bailey Driggers and Caycee and Zachary Shaw .

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at Divonia Baptist Church with Pastor Ray Shaw officiating, assisted by Bro. Ronnie Sadler at the graveside at Riverside Cemetery in White Springs, Fla.
