- Canea Owens (back) shows off one of the prom attendees.
Newly founded organization M.O.M (Moms on a Mission) held their first event “My First Prom, Hollywood Red Carpet” in Jasper on June 20.
We’re still very excited and pleased with the outcome of the event. My First Prom Hollywood Red Carpet turned out to be a very successful event, one of our first.
All the children and parents planned ahead to make sure their child’s walk down the red carpet would not only be seen, but to give each child that time to feel special as others looked on from afar. Each child had their picture taken on the red carpet. Inside the prom, attendees played and danced as their parents watched, laughed and took pictures.
“These babies were gorgeous.”
I just wanted to do something for the kids. I was born and raised in Jasper and coming up we had activities or dances to look forward to. We enjoyed that as kids. Looking back at those moments that are now memories, makes me want to do more for our youth and I plan on putting forth the effort to do so. I’m constantly reminded that this is what God steered me to do. I did it, and it was great.
That’s why my mission is for MOM’s to be the best we can at all times, because we have little ones that want to be just like us. We have to start somewhere, so why not here?
This is my first of many events and endeavors for M.O.M and I would like to thank all attendees and parents for participating in M.O.M’s first event.
Thanks to my mentor, Allisha Williams (ICAN), Pearlie Owens, Alonza Sowell and all who helped with the success of the event.
