Annie B. Edwards, a resident of Live Oak, Fla., passed away Saturday, July 25, 2015. Mrs. Annie B. Edwards is survived by her two daughters and one son-in-law: Ruthie M. (Jimmie) McClendon; Vonnie M. Watson; two sisters: Mary Lee Jones of Jasper, Fla. and Tiny Ruth Littles of Jacksonville Beach, Fla.; one sister-in-law; seven grandchildren; granddaughter-in-laws; grandson-in-law; twelve great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren; a special cousin Ruby Edwards and many other close relatives and friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Annie B. Edwards will be Saturday, Aug. 1, 2015 at 11 a.m. in the Ft. Union A.M.E Church in the Fort Union Community. Visitation for family and friends will be Friday, July 31, 2015 at 6 p.m. in the D.M. Udell Funeral Home Chapel.

Wyman Barney Cheshire

December 23, 1951 – July 12, 2015

Wyman Barney Cheshire, 63, of Canton, MS, passed away Sunday, July 12, 2015. He was born on December 23, 1951, in Live Oak, Fla. and resided in Tampa, Fla. for over 20 years before moving to Mississippi.

Wyman loved the open road and was a truck driver for most of his life. He dealt in pine straw sales the later part of his life. He loved animals, especially his faithful canine companion, Dixie Lou. He never met a stranger and quickly made friends with whoever came along.

Preceded in death by his father and mother, Bud and Mary Cheshire, Wyman is survived by two daughters, Lindsay Markham (Troy), Lake City, Fla. and Krista Cheshire, Atlanta, GA; one grandson, Isaac Cheshire, Lake City, Fla.; three brothers, Andy Cheshire, Bobby Cheshire and Don Cheshire (Linda), all of Live Oak, Fla.; several nieces and nephews, Live Oak, Fla.; and Dixie Lou, Canton, MS.

Wyman was cremated on July 14, 2015 and his ashes were spread around an old oak tree at his childhood home in McAlpin, Fla. during a private service held on Sunday, July 19, 2015.

Breeland Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.

Don R. Westbrook

August 1, 1935 – July 20, 2015

Don R. Westbrook, beloved husband and father, has passed away after a short bout of pneumonia on Monday, July 20.

Along with wife Jean T. Westbrook, he graduated from Suwannee High School in Live Oak, Fla., and then from Florida State University in 1957. After his service in the U.S. Army, they moved to New Orleans in 1960 at the invitation of WWL-TV. There he worked and announced the “Eyewitness News” weather.

In 1989, the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists presented him with its Jim Metcalf Memorial Award for Outstanding Achievement. He was inducted into the greater New Orleans Broadcast Hall of Fame in 1999, and retired later that year.

He continued to play horns for free concerts with the New Orleans Pops, and also occasionally taught courses in Communications at Loyola University.

Don Westbrook loved camping, photography and family summers at New Smyrna Beach in Fla. He enjoyed singing in the New Orleans Vocal Arts Chorale and in the choir at St. Charles Avenue Baptist Church. The family will hold a private service in celebration of his life.

He is survived by his wife Jean Tedder Westbrook, now a resident of Poydras Home in New Orleans, daughters Laura Westbrook of New Orleans and Diane Westbrook of Colorado Springs, brother John Westbrook of Austin, TX, and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Nature Conservancy.

Claude Edmond Johnson

March 24, 1924 – July 30, 2015

 

Claude Edmond Johnson, age 91, of Live Oak, FL passed away Thursday, July 30, 2015 at his home.  He was a native of Polk County, FL moving to Live Oak in 1951 from Lee, FL. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army having served during WWII.  Claude owned and operated Johnson’s Furniture Store in downtown for over thirty-five years.  He enjoyed fishing, cane grinding, farming, playing pool and poker.  Most of all he loved dancing with his wife to a good country band.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, Sarah Johnson, Live Oak; two daughters, Ann Kiser and Robbie Thompson both of Live Oak; one brother, Leo Johnson, Daytona Beach, FL; a nephew, Gene Clark, Lee, FL; five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.
