- Lafayette’s Mason Byrd was a SVEC scholarship winner.
Eight lucky high school students are getting a leg up on their college journey thanks to scholarships awarded by Suwannee Valley Electric Cooperative.
SVEC recently announced the winners of its scholarship awards, drawing from students all across its coverage area. Madisen Buzbee and Gary Sansone received the honor at Suwannee High School, Trevor Topham and Allison Randell at Branford High School, Aubrey Morris and Samantha Marcanno at Hamilton County High School, and Mason Byrd and Taylor Adkins at Lafayette High School.

As an electric cooperative, SVEC serves members in the Suwannee Valley who also share ownership of the utility. Part of that cooperative ownership is a commitment to supporting the community.
“We want to make sure we do everything in our power to build the best future we can for the Suwannee Valley,” says SVEC Community Relations Manager Baynard Ward. “These students are our friends and neighbors. They will go on to lead this community one day, so we want to make sure they have the best start possible.”
That’s precisely what the scholarship program helps to achieve, providing each student with $500 toward their college tuition. Students graduating at the end of this school year can apply for the SVEC Scholarship Program if they are the dependent of an SVEC member from the time they apply to the time they graduate.
