Alvin Jones was born on Nov. 19, 1938, in Eudora, Arkansas, to John and Adeline Jones, the youngest of 14 children. He moved to Memphis, Tenn. at the age of two and attended school at Shelby County School District.
He accepted Christ in his life at an early age.
Alvin served in the U.S. Army and traveled to Korea and abroad before separating with an honorable discharge.
Alvin moved to Live Oak, Fla., at the age of 25 and met and married Mildred Brown. He was a devoted father of seven children, 27 grandchildren, 13 great grands. He departed his earthly home on Dec. 21, 2015, to join his two sons Alison Bernard Jones Sr. and Marcus Altonio Jones Sr.; one grandson Jac’Quez Gainer and one great grand Jyran Jones; five brothers: Roosevelt Jones, John Jones II, Williams Jones, Scepio Jones, Charlie Jones; five sisters: Martha Smith, Alice Jones, Ethel Gayfield, Ella Williams and Lueida Jackson.
Alvin leaves to mourn his passing his devoted wife Mildred Jones; two sons Alvin Dewayne Jones, Wesley Chapel, Fla.; Douglas Jones Sr., Live Oak, Fla.; three daughters: Vicki Gainer; Willa Jones Choice (Daniel); Yolanda Jones Sobah, all of Live Oak, Fla.; and one grandson that he reared as his son, Alison Jones Jr.; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will meet and greet friends from 5-7 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home on Friday, Jan. 1, 2016. The funeral service will be held Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, at Ebenezer AME Church.

Essie Mae Weatherspoon, a former resident of Live Oak, Florida, passed away Dec. 21, 2015. Ms. Essie Mae Weatherspoon is survived by her son: Mr. Michael Weatherspoon of Lake City, Florida; brothers: Ivey (Clara) Weatherspoon Jr., and Henry Lee Weatherspoon, of Live Oak, Florida; sisters: Claudia Mae Brazzer, Eva Mae Weatherspoon, and Jackie Weatherspoon, of Clearwater, Florida; one aunt: Lola Walker, of Live Oak, Florida; a host of nieces, nephews, the class of 1972, Springfield Baptist Church members and sorrowing friends.
Funeral services for Ms. Essie Mae Weatherspoon will be Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, at the Udell Funeral Home Chapel in Live Oak, Florida at 11 a.m. Visitation for family and friends will be Friday, Jan. 1, 2016, from 6-8 p.m. until 8 p.m. at D.M. Udell Funeral Home Chapel.

Kacey Rose Mathis, 4, Live Oak, passed on Monday, Dec. 28, 2015 in Gainesville, Fla.. She was born in Adel, Ga. and attended Southside Baptist Church.
She is survived by her parents Jonathan and Amber Mathis, Live Oak, Fla. She has five sisters: twin sister Lacey Lilly Mathis, Catalina Love Allen, Salina Nicole Ely, Trinity Marie Ely and Cassie Alexis Ely; two brothers: Davin Dean Mathis and Damon Dale Mathis; maternal grandmother Barbara Ann Allen; paternal grandparents Stephen & Karen Mathis, Patty Dowling; paternal great-grandfather Russell Mathis.
Visitation will be held from 6 – 8 p.m., Monday, Jan. 4, 2016. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016 at Southside Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Brett officiating. Interment will follow service at First Assembly of God Cemetery.

Gertrude Julia Palmer Meranda, daughter of Edward and Emma Palmer, was born July 27, 1924 in Brooklyn, New York. She died Dec. 10, 2015.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Clarence, lovingly known as Buck; her daughter Lori J. LeBoeuf and grandson Jameson Toohey. She is survived by her sister Lavinia Kearny, known as Vinnie; her daughter Julie Toohey and grandson Jordan Toohey.
