Jim Bravis Redmond, 28, died from his injuries at South Georgia Medical Center, according to the GBI, though the state law-enforcement agency did not specify whether he died late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning.

Redmond was wanted on military desertion charges from Fort Bragg, N.C., according to the GBI.

Redmond was scheduled for an autopsy Wednesday afternoon.

He was accompanied by a woman, Crystal Griffin Redd, 32, according to the GBI. She was taken into custody after the officer involved shooting. She is wanted on embezzlement charges out of Virginia, according to reports.

They were both from out of state, according to authorities.

Several Lowndes County sheriff’s deputies and a Georgia State Patrol trooper have been placed on administrative leave in the wake of the fatal shooting. They are LCSO deputies Perry Connell, Jimmy Royals, Derrik McLeod, Robbie Norris, James Champion, Matthew Porter, Will Neel and GSP Trooper Brian Bass.

It is standard procedure for officers to be placed on administrative leave following any officer-involved shooting.

Tuesday morning, an armed robbery was reported at the Harvey’s Supermarket in Hahira.

A police BOLO (be on the lookout) was issued for the vehicle and white male suspect, according to initial reports.

Law-enforcement spotted a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle used in the armed robbery. A woman was in the front seat of the vehicle at the Pilot Travel Center off Interstate 75 Exit 11.

A Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office deputy learned the man was hiding in the backseat. He had a pistol, according to the GBI.

The deputy requested additional back-up. More deputies and GSP troopers arrived at the Pilot station.

The Pilot station and neighboring businesses were evacuated.

Repeated requests were made for the man to drop his weapon and exit the vehicle, authorities said. He did not comply with the requests, according to the GBI.

“According to preliminary witness reports, the male failed to drop the weapon or surrender before pointing the gun at law enforcement who then fired upon him,” according to the GBI report.

The LCSO requested the GBI office in Thomasville for an “independent investigation into the shooting.”

GBI investigated the crime scene, identified witnesses and collected evidence.

Once completed, the GBI will give the case to the Southern District Attorney’s Office.
